TripleLite 180º Update | Shark Tank Season 16

One night, Ronnie Pritchett walked down his backyard steps and saw that his flashlight lit up only a tiny spot, leaving most of the area dark.

He struggled to see his path and nearly fell.

Nancy and Ronnie’s Pitch

Nancy and Ronnie opened their pitch with a creative demonstration highlighting traditional flashlights’ flaws.

They explained they needed investment to expand their business globally and increase market reach.

TripleLite Flashlight Features

Nancy introduced the TripleLite 180-degree flashlight as a patented product with three LED bulbs that provide wide illumination.

She emphasized its 160-foot beam range, making it useful for indoor and outdoor use.

Financial Details

Guest shark Daniel Lubetzky asked about the flashlight’s production costs, wholesale price, and retail value.

  • Production cost: $6.50

  • Wholesale price: $15

  • Retail price: $29.95

Ronnie also revealed that the product holds five utility patents and one design patent, protecting the technology across 27 countries.

Business History and Growth

Nancy stated that although the product launched in 2014, sales remained low until 2020.

  • 2014: $100,000 in sales

  • 2015: $310,000 in sales

Mark Cuban questioned the six-year delay between the patent and strong sales.

Ronnie explained that 2016, they brought in an investor for funding and mentorship. However, the partnership failed, and in 2018, the investor sued for company control.

After a legal battle, Nancy and Ronnie regained full ownership by August 2018.

Since then, the business has generated over $4 million in sales in four years.

  • The year before filming: $1,077,000 in sales

  • Projected sales: $1.5 million

  • Estimated profit (before taxes): $318,000

Sharks’ Reactions

Sharks’ Reactions

Robert Herjavec questioned why the flashlight had not seen wider adoption despite its innovative design and decided to step away.

Ronnie explained that larger flashlight companies had offered licensing deals, but the royalties were too low to justify an agreement.

Lori Greiner asked about Ronnie’s background as an inventor. He shared that he worked as a golf professional and had no prior experience in inventing.

Nancy added that she took over the business despite lacking formal training. She managed production, marketing, and sales to ensure its success.

The Offers

Kevin O’Leary appreciated their pitch and acknowledged their hesitation to give up control.

He offered $400,000 for 49% equity, promising to dominate retail distribution.

Daniel proposed $400,000 for 25% equity, emphasizing his ability to scale the business globally.

Lori and Mark partnered to offer $400,000 for 25% equity, focusing on retail expansion and licensing opportunities.

Negotiation and Final Deal

Negotiation and Final Deal

Nancy and Ronnie countered, asking to reduce the equity to 20%.

Daniel agreed to lower his offer to 20% equity if they accepted immediately and suggested bringing Robert into the deal.

Lori and Mark refused to adjust their offer, insisting that their 25% equity deal provided the best value.

Nancy and Ronnie ultimately accepted Lori and Mark’s offer, leaving with a secured investment.
